Hi folks. I’ve had my N97 a couple of days now and love it! So as not to scrath the screen I bought a universal pouch to keep it in. This seemed to work fine for the first day, but now when I slide the phone into the pouch it will unlock it’s self and activate the front camera! I can’t seem to re-create the problem outside the pouch to figure out how it’s doing it.
Anyone else have a simmillar issue and perhaps a solution???

Thanks,
Robert

Just taking a wild guess...

The pouch is probably a bit snug I take it?

You are sliding the phone into the pouch top first?

As it slides in the pouch hits the unlock switch on the side.
Then as it gets the rest of the way in hits the camera button on the other side of the phone.

Try sliding it into your pouch bottom-first and see if it still happens.

Thanks for the reply Mattock,
but i slide the phone into the pouch on it's side with the unlock slider at the top. So the only parts of the phone touching the sides of the pouch are the top and bottom. I've done this very carefully trying not to touch any other buttons or screen and it still happens.
Might it have something to do with the proximity sensor??

It shouldn't have anything to do with it, the proximity sensor is to lock the touch-pad so it will not change things while the phone is against your head during a call.

But I guess anything is possible. I have a couple of N97's, one that is kept in a belt pouch and the other is kept in a pouch like the one I think you are speaking of, and neither phone have I experienced this on. I always thought and still think the lock button should be once to lock it and twice (say within 3-4 seconds)to unlock it , this way an accidental slide of the button by a foreign object would not activate the phone, since it is very unlikely joggling around in a purse would move the slider twice in the set amount of time.

Yes thank you robbie414 for allowing Lord Dextro to chime in...

Your pouch is pushing the camera button. This overrides your unlock swich so that you can take a "quick snap" of something. Sound's like you will need to either modify your pouch, or seek another one.

Lord Dextro and his devoted followers are searching for the perfect case. Let us know if you find this "grail" for the N97.

I just tested some stuff out.

I'm using the new firmware, and the camera button does not override the unlock switch.

However if you slide the camera cover open it DOES override the unlock.

Is that what's happening perhaps?

Good catch Mattock, I haven't tried this since updating the phones firmware. I am certain that this is exactly what's going on.

So robbie414, is looks to me that if you want to continue using your case, you'll need to put the phone in it differently.

Hi guys. I'm afraid it's not the camera slide at the back of the phone that's doing it. I've tried putting the phone into the case very very carefully, and there is definately nothing touching the camera slide or indeed any of the function buttons. When the lock is on pressing the camera function buttons doesn't unlock it.
Have attached photo of said case in-case anyone's interested Smiley

Okay, I had this problem with my LG Prada phone... which by the way was also a touch screen phone. It appears that you have a magnet in the case which might be too strong.

Genius!  Grin
There is indeed a magnet in the case! Thank you, as it was driving me nuts wondering what was causing it.

Guess i'll have to search for a better case.
