Last week my phone froze to death.  The only thing to do was a hard reset (or whatever you call it).  Back to the factory settings.  But that wasn’t too bad as I had backed it up just a couple of weeks ago. Almost everything back to how it should be.

ONE HUGE PROBLEM THOUGH!

All my music, more than 1,700 tracks, while still on the phone (mass memory file named music) isn’t recognised by the standard Nokia issue music player.  I tried various things all I got was ‘no songs’ or anything else from that screen for that matter; it didn’t find any ‘new’ songs to add from refresh but the library details were still there; 3 days 12 hours; 1760 songs etc. etc..

I played about with OVI PC suite and all that happened there was the whole catalogue was duplicated on OVI PC suite!

I’ve tried adding one or two new songs – nothing different.

Then I tried deleting all the songs (moved them to my PC). There are now no songs on my phone. No change to any of the information the phone gives me the library details were still the same 3 days 12 hours; 1760 songs etc. etc..

I tried putting on a few songs – no change.  Songs are on the phone but no songs found or displayed, old library details.

HELP! Please.

All I would like is to have all my songs on my phone and able to play them through the player. Simples!

Indeed that's a huge problem since i also have a lot of music on my phone. First thing I would do is make a backup of mass memory, only the files i would need again, not the whole mass memory. Then format mass memory and put everything back. i would again hard reset my phone just to be sure. After this (hard reset phone AND format mass memory) your phone SHOULD behave normal (and be noticeably faster too). Try that and post back with results.
Good luck man, I know how frustrating it can be not being able to play music on our phones...

Hi doglan97, thanks for the advice.  It seems very complicated for a simple chap like me – but not beyond the realms of possibility!  Smiley  And the thought of more hard resets makes me incredibly nervous!

I go on holiday tomorrow  Grin so I’ll have to try it when I get back and I’ll post the results then.

Thanks again.

Jack

Hi again, I assume you did a hard reset with hardware keyboard by pressing backspace+space+shift+power button all at once right or even *#7370# and NOT *#7780# (this is factory reset, it only resets your phone settings).

Yes, it was backspace+space+shift+power button all at once to switch the phone on.

It gave me a bit of a fright when it first came to life, I barely recognised it!   Shocked

I have never been so thankful that I had made a back up a couple of weeks ago, something I know not many people do.

Well I did as advised, everything backed up as much as possible and the good news is I now have my music back as it should be.

The bad news is I lost some apps – typically the ones I used most and one that is no longer free, Midomi SoundHound!  Made worse by the fact that when you try and go back to Ovi to download them again the option to download isn’t there!

Still I’m happy to have my music back.  Smiley

Yes, that's the thing about resetting. You will have to re-install all your apps. One thing you can do (IF you are able to hack your phone) is if you downloaded and installed a .jar file from Ovi Store you can find it in E:\private\102033E6\MIDlets (assuming you've hacked your phone and are using a file explorer like Xplore).
But glad you can listen to your music again....have fun  Grin Cheesy Wink

Hi, thanks doglan97.

The thing is I thought I’d backed them all up only to find, or rather not find, them there when I went to restore.

I think the loss of apps is something that should be addressed by Nokia, in fact I think I’ll write to them about that and the inability to download an app twice from OVI.

I know I’ve only lost free apps that became cost ones and only about £10 worth.  But I’d be raging  Angry if I’d, like a friend of mine with an iPhone who has lots of paid for apps, spent for example £20 on the Formula 1 app and lost that.
