Hi bronxboy, i am sure you are a true audiophile and will appreciate good sound reproduction. i salute that. Wink after all every artiste will want to have their music reproduced they way it was recorded  Grin Grin Grin

just one thinny...... you modify headphones too..... Shocked Shocked Shocked hahahha coolness!!!!

for me at the moment on the go i am using the SONY DR-BT140Q Bluetooth earphones. i kinda like the wireless thinngy though.

http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10551&storeId=10151&langId=-1&productId=8198552921665493068#specifications

i chose these because their effective freq range of 100Hz to 4kHz but still capable of the full audio frequency spectrum. i figured that because most of today's compressors be they MP3 or WMV, there is a drop off of high frequencies from 10kHz and above.

also looking at the way the N97 reproduces music, this could be a good choice. personally, i dont experience the high frequency nuance and thanks to the EQ, i can isolate the Bass at 53Hz. also, because of the 100Hz effective range, it takes care of the low frequency rumble.

give it a shot my friend. if you can get a demo pair, try them with my EQ setting above.

let me know ya.

cheers!!! Grin

Hi disturbed... not too much faith in Nokia now ehh... hahahahahaha Grin Grin Grin

Audio Freq: 10Hz to 20kHz, this all looks impressive however, being the ear bud type design, i am quite doubtful it can hit 10Hz. for its size to hit 20kHz is not a prob, provided it is well designed. Must test to find out.... Wink because i doubt i may buy it, i guess the only way is to go down to the Nokia showroom, pair it with my phone and see how it goes.

THD: 500Hz to 8kHz (ah ha...!!!  Shocked here is where the whole story unfolds....) Wink
by stating that the THD is at this freq range, it shows that this pair of earphones has an effective range of only such.

i guess in the R&D + manufacturing process, Nokia also figured that most MP3 files are compressed with a drop off after 13kHz so by limiting the response of the earphones to 8kHz with our phone's EQ isolation at 11.8kHz will sure produce some good highs; but may be only just. we still have not considered the frequency separation factors yet.

as for the lows, this pair will for sure cancel out the low freq rumble as it is effective from 500Hz and above. with our phone's EQ isolation, it will be good to produce hopefully as low as 100Hz.... i am just guessing because of the range of EQ from 59Hz to 259Hz as based on the N97. In this case, we may be able to hear the bassline but might not necessarily feel it.

I am not sure exactly what the attached DSP may do but it could help enhance the effective frequencies to produce an image of bigger and fatter mids. this is to make up for any nuances missing from the highs and depth of the lows. something like the artificial LOUDNESS thinngy....

just IMHO... however, thru the number of years i played with these, it should be quite an accurate picture la.... hopefully if someone here gets it we may kindly request for a review.

perhaps when it arrives in singapore, i may speak with my friends at Nokia Care to see if i can get a test drive  Grin

Cheers!!! Grin

10HZ is pushing it & even if it does hit it something like this could do serious damage to your eardrums. most don't realize it but the reason people talk so loud as they get older is because they can't hear even themselves.

Take care of your eardrums. Distortion is their worst enemy.

guys... thank you for the kind comments... i am no expert la..... Embarrassed Embarrassed Embarrassed

just happy to be apart of this forum   Wink

What bronxboy said is really very true... as we age, our hearing deteriorates. the best we can ever have in terms of hearing is the time at birth. as we grow, our skin stretches and our eardrums become less sensitive. by the time we are 25yrs we would have lost almost half of the highs.... somewhere from 13.5kHz to 20kHz....  Cry Cry Cry Cry it would be worser if we work or enjoy in places with extremely loud noise or loud music constantly....

anyway, coming back to this... quite frankly, i really doubt it will ever hit 10Hz based on its small construction in size.

if you guys are on the prowl for a pair of headphones look for one which is large diaphragm, open type. Make sure you can get the foam pads around the ears. this would be a good start.

if earbuds are the order of the day, look for a pair that will fit the ear without the sponges. the small type, low quality sponges will somehow give you a false impression of bass as it actually distorts the out coming sound waves. this is all manufacturing cost saving techniques.

for both, if possible look for their frequency specification as 18Hz to 22kHz. this is the best and most honest range you can get. if manufacturers are honest in their description, you can trust them. one example was the SANY MDR-484 earbuds. it was like made 20yrs ago.... but IMHO, today, they are still the best earbuds ever made. i had 3 pairs until they all died a natural death.... Cry Cry Cry

ok as soon as the NOKIA BH-505 comes i will try to get a pair from my friends to test it out. will make a post here on this.

Cheers all!!! Grin Grin Grin

Do you think something like this would have good base and great overall sound reproduction?

Hi doglan97, this pair of earphones really looks class... even the logo on top emphasizes this.....  Cool Cool Cool

frankly, i am just surprised at its freq response.

the low freq up to lower-mid is seriously PERFECT!!!! totally takes the breath away... for just low freq and bass reflex response this is not just ideal but PERFECT!!! Wink

the prob with this set, as based on the chart only, IMHO, i dont understand why should there be such a huge drop after 10kHz... if the manufacturers are just targeting the MP3 and or compressed music sound market, this will really be a waste of money and really bad marketing strategies. by having a 40db drop off in this zone is like saying that humans can only hear up to, in this case 5kHz... or that music frequencies dont exist above 12kHz... Huh Huh Huh

the dip in the 1kHz pure-mid is fine to compensate for players which do not have EQ's built in.

the construction and design on this pair is commendable as they incorporate a dual-diaphragm design.... very very very rare indeed... Wink i can salute that. however, if the performance of the highs is this bad honestly i wouldn't go for it at all.

if you have a chance to get hold of 1 pair, i will send you a PURE TONE of PINK NOISE. listen to it with this and compare it with another just simple earphone. Just basing on the specs alone, i can safely tell you that there will be no HISSING from this pair but the HISSING will be present on the simple earphone. this will illustrate to you there are missing frequencies. again this is just IMHO only.

hope this helps because from the advert and the looks of this.... i dont think its gonna be in the US$80.00 to US$100.00 earphone range.

my 2 cents worth though ya... hope it helps...

Cheers!!! Grin Grin Grin

i was just looking at this for a while.....

again, IMHO only, i think this has something to do with the design and construction of the earpiece. from the diagram, the low freq and low-mid freq module is in front while the high is behind. Huh Huh Huh Huh

shouldnt be that the high freq module be in the front? reason being the high frequencies having shorter wavelength, less energy, will hence travel shorter distances before distortion occurs.

by having the low and low-mid freq modules at the back, it will not only reinforce the high freq driver in the front however, it may also act as a vibrating block, similar to a sub-woofer system, when the earphone is inserted into our ear. the surrounding ear cartilage will hold it snugly in place. you may then experience the so called sub-frequency rumble in the head thinngy.... Grin Grin Grin

just a second thought guys.... any comments???

cheers!!! Grin
