Ok folks, what’s the deal? Does the Video Call work on the N97 or not?
I heard several people say yes it does, some others say it does not. I’ve got Skype and Fring on my phone. I’ve got 2 Skype accounts. So I can call my phone via my computer to test the Video connection, still no video. Audio is fine. I’ve read a lot about folks having issues with their N97 mine works great. Right now I’m trying to see if I can crank up the Video call on this thing. Is there some other software I need?. Does anyone have it working.. I’m in the US. Hit me back.
Just  want to know the REAL DEAL!!

Video calling works fine with latest fring app through Skype account. To test, no need for two accounts just make fring video test call - after 10 seconds your video & audio are echoed back. You will need good WLAN connection though.

Dedicated Skype app does not support video calling yet, although not surprisingly is probably better for voice calls.

Hey Richardhula thanks for your reply.
I did do the fring test and it worked fine, just like you said, it does echo back the audio and video and plays fine. But I am still not able to video call friends who I know phone should work with this.
Did you see the email fring sent out to all it’s subscribers? Check it out….

(Hello fringsters,
As you may have noticed, Skype has blocked fring. We are very sorry for any inconvenience this Skype policy has unfairly caused you.

As loyal fring users, you deserve an explanation: Last week, following the surge in fring video calling traffic, fring service to Skype was temporarily reduced . Unfortunately, Skype and their legal team demanded not to restore your connectivity to Skype via fring.

Needless to say, we are very disappointed that Skype is now trying to muzzle competition, even at the expense of its own users.

While we regret Skype's decision to block fring, we are committed to continuing to provide you with market-leading innovation, to keep you in touch with your friends, wherever they are.
On fring you can freely use the best mobile over internet communication like video calling, calls and chat anywhere (3G/4G/WiFi) on any advanced Smartphone.

So, if you are frustrated like us with communication barriers, and are just looking for a fun and easy way to stay in touch with your friends on the go, tell them about fring.)

So I guess they are working on a way around not using skype….IDK what I’m doing wrong if anything but I can’t seem to get it to work when trying to video call others.

Hmm - seems a bit unsporting of Skype. Just checked & Skype add-on now missing in fring list. This action must be quite recent because I made a Skype video call about a week ago.

To the best of my knowledge the fring app only supported  video calling through Skype despite their missleading statement.

Maybe Skype will shortly update their app to support video calling, but not holding my breath.
